How to Use a Lotion Bar?

Our lotion bar is the ultimate daily moisturizer that is loaded with skin-loving butters, natural plant oils, and vegan candelilla wax. For those that are curious but aren’t sure what a lotion bar is or how to use a lotion bar, let us tell you!

What is a Lotion Bar?

lotion bar

A lotion bar is exactly what it sounds like - a solid bar of lotion. It is made of organic concentrated ingredients that deliver deep hydration to your skin with no hidden preservatives or additives. In other words, our lotion bar is made with the skin in mind. If you want to learn how to use a lotion bar then keep reading.

Unlike most drugstore brand lotions out there, our solid lotion bar is made from organic, vegan, and cruelty free ingredients. We are also free of certain chemicals like: parabens, silicones, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, petroleum, and colorants. Before we dive into why you need a eco lotion bar or how to use a lotion bar, let’s cover why these ingredients should be avoided in all your cosmetics.

When choosing a skincare product, it’s important you make sure there are no harsh chemicals. The ingredients you read are what you are putting onto your skin and get absorbed into your body. Maybe you are aware of these common harmful chemicals but maybe you aren’t.

Let’s talk about it.

Ingredients we avoid in our Lotion Bar

Parabens

Parabens can mimic the human hormone estrogen. This means that they may interfere with the hormone balance of your body, no matter your sex.

Silicones

The reason to avoid silicones in skincare is because they form a film on the skin’s surface which creates a barrier. Yes, it can seal in hydration but it also traps dirt, grim, and bacteria under the skin's surface which can cause many issues and cause breakouts or irritations.

Phthalates

Phthalates are a group of man-made chemical compounds that are used in the manufacture of plastics, solvents, and personal care products. They are used in cosmetics products as solubilizers (an agent that something is dissolved in), plasticizers, or denaturants. They have been banned in many countries and brands have begun to steer away from using them in formulations.

Petroleum

If petroleum is fully refined it has no linked health concerns. Here in the United States it is not fully refined which means it can be contaminated with the toxic chemical polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs. It is similar to silicones in which it creates a barrier on top of the skin and can trap bacteria in your pores and cause irritations.

Synthetic Fragrance

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), fragrance is the biggest cause of cosmetic contact dermatitis. Fragrance is something that people look for to mask their smell, but it can do more harm than good to you inside and out. Synthetic fragrance can also cause hormonal issues and you may not realize it. Opting for a product that has a natural smell from the ingredients is more beneficial. Our lotion bar has a natural scent of real cocoa.

Colorants

Artificial colorants can block your pores and interfere with your skin's natural oil balance, which can cause problems like blemishes or breakouts. If you wouldn’t eat something with added dyes in it, then you shouldn’t be applying it topically to your skin either. We have to remember that our skin is the largest organ and since it is porous, it absorbs whatever you put on it.

Okay, now that we understand what we should avoid in our cosmetics and what lotion bars are, let’s dive into our list. Our lotion bar has 6 ingredients. Yes, you read that right. 6 natural and organic ingredients and yes, none of them are water!

Lotion Bar Ingredients List

Shea Butter: Shea butter is high in vitamins A & E, aids in regenerating skin cells, and maintains your skin’s hydration by keeping it soft and flexible.

Cocoa Butter: Cocoa butter reduces the appearance of scars, soothes dry or sensitive skin, and nourishes the skin with its natural acids.

Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil is non-acnegenic, non-allergenic, and antimicrobial. It is high in antioxidants to aid in regenerating skin.

Candelilla Wax : Candelilla wax is a natural binder for cosmetic ingredients. It spreads better and is absorbed easier than beeswax (beeswax is not vegan or considered cruelty free).

Safflower Oil: Ideal for hydrating dry skin while soothing irritation, inflammation, and rashes. It is known to enhance skin’s texture, appearance, and quality.

Arrowroot Powder: Arrowroot powder acts as a thickening and opacifying agent that adds a smooth texture to the final product. This root contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents that can help soothe sensitive skin.

Our lotion bar packs a punch in being zero waste, having clean ingredients, being TSA friendly, waterless, multiuse, and long lasting. Not to mention it comes in a reusable tin that you can use over and over again!

6 Key Benefits of our Lotion Bar

Zero Waste

Zero-Waste cosmetics means that the items are designed with as minimal impact on the environment as possible. That includes plastic-free products, waterless formulas, recyclable packaging, and biodegradable solutions. We know you may be thinking that switching out one product won't help the Earth, but, in reality it is the small things that get the ball rolling and create the biggest impact. By using one solid lotion bar, you replace up to 3 plastic lotion bottles from the landfills!

Clean Organic Ingredients

Ingredients Lists can get very confusing. Between fragrances and preservatives, it can get tricky to decipher what is actually going into your skin. Like stated above, our ingredients list is just 6 plant based ingredients including: shea butter, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, candelilla wax, safflower oil, and arrowroot powder. This combination of oils, butters, wax, and powder create the perfect combination to deeply moisturize your skin. No broad terms to confuse you, just straight ingredients!

Travel Friendly

How many times have you gone on a trip only to find that your large lotion bottle exploded all over your clothes? If this has happened to you, you already know that mess can ruin your items. Solid lotion bars do not have that problem! They are compact to fit in a purse, in your car, in your desk, or even your pocket. They do not have a pump, so, no need to worry about any messes. Being travel friendly also means TSA approved so the hard part is (still) just packing! If you want to learn if you can bring a bar of soap or lotion bar on a plane you can read more here.

Waterless

A unique and sustainable feature that a lotion bar offers is that it doesn’t require water. Most cosmetics have water in them acting as a solvent to dissolve other ingredients. Our lotion bar however,  is a 100% blend of organically sourced ingredients that go straight into your skin to leave you deeply hydrated and soft. If you see water at the top of an ingredient list, it means that it has the highest concentration. That means most of their formulation could be water - not the ingredients they advertise.

Multi-Purpose Use

Having one quality product that can moisturize and rehydrate skin all over your body, means fewer purchases and less time reading a million labels. You’ll have a dependable product that you know works. Your chapped lips, dry cuticles, sandpaper hands, flaking knees or elbows will thank you!

Long Lasting

As you learn how to use our lotion bar, you’ll see that it is very concentrated, so a little bit goes a long way. Although everyone will use it differently, this bar can last for quite some time. Besides being good for the environment it is economical for you as the consumer as well. Less purchases but great quality products will make you, your skin, and your wallet happy.

We have talked about good and not so good ingredients and what lotion bars can offer. Now let’s explore how to use your lotion bar

How to use a Lotion Bar

Being that it’s solid, the best way to use your lotion bar is to warm it up in your hands and then massage onto your skin immediately.

Like we said, this bar is highly concentrated, so you don’t need to use a lot to achieve the desired amount of moisture. This bar is waterless and does not need water to activate the ingredients. You can use your bar when you’re home, out getting coffee, at work, or at events. Like we said earlier, super travel friendly!

We have bragged about our product and how sustainable it is from ingredients to packaging.

The question is;

What is Sustainability and Why Should You Care?

lotion bar and metal tin

If you’re here to learn about using a lotion bar then you either are already environmentally conscious or are looking to start.

Sustainability means taking into account social, environmental and economical aspects throughout the whole production chain of a product. Responsibility doesn’t just begin with a company or brand, it begins with the consumer. It was Forbes that wrote an article that stated:

“…Gen X consumers’ preference to shop sustainable brands increased by nearly 25% and their willingness to pay more for sustainable products increased by 42%. In fact, consumers across all generations—from Baby Boomers to Gen Z—are now willing to spend more for sustainable products”.

What does that tell us? It tells us we see a problem and are making the conscious decision to choose sustainability. The beauty industry is worth over $511 billion dollars. That’s a lot of zeros. With one of the biggest industries world wide, it is imperative that we switch to sustainable products, ingredients, and packaging to save our Earth. The consumer is the one that tells the brands what to do. The consumer push for natural and organic cosmetics has forced brands to do and be better.

We also want to thank Sustainable Jungle for considering our zero waste lotion one of the best on the market.

So, as you may be able to tell, we love our Earth. A gigantic part of our Earth (specifically 71%) is ocean.  We work with a nonprofit called Ocean Conservancy Inc. We have successfully donated over $12,700 to them to help our oceans. Ocean Conservancy’s mission is to create evidence-based solutions for a healthy ocean, wildlife, and the communities that depend on it. For over 40 years, they have worked to protect vital ecosystems, defend critical legislation, enforce accountability of leaders/legislators and rally the world’s largest effort to remove trash from our beaches. They have successfully collected over 348 million pounds of trash from beaches through their annual International Coastal Cleanup.

Here at EcoRoots, we are also donate a portion of our sale to non-profits that are linked together in a mission to protect the future of our planet. A portion of every EcoRoots purchase, including our lotion bar, directly connects your dollars to the “doers” in the field. This allows us as a company and you to heal the planet.

If you ask us, we think our lotion bar is pretty awesome. We are so happy to bring you a product that is zero waste, clean ingredients, TSA friendly, waterless, multiuse, and long lasting. We are proud to bring natural, non-toxic, vegan, and organic ingredients to the table and to make our product #1 in your skincare routine. Being a part of the solution and not a part of the problem is why we work hard to make sure our products are zero-waste and made sustainably. We are proud to work with Ocean Conservancy Inc to help assist them in protecting our oceans and with any other non-profit initiatives.
